Her school doesn’t allow it but the adults in my family have one. I took it away and of course she’s upset. How should I handle this? Is there somebody I can talk to for guidance?

School doesn't allow it in school, doesn't allow it to be owned by her, doesn't allow her to use anyone else's either...?

Also, how old is your daughter?

Officially in our chasidish community it is frowned upon and the school asks for your filter id.
Some girls/boys will get them once they go to work or get married.

I would worry about a whole lot more than a phone.
A chassidishe 16 yr old that gets herself a smartphone has feigelech in kup.

Forget the phone and find out what her issue is really.

How did she "get hold" of the phone? It's one thing if she had money of her own and went into a phone store, and it's something else if another girl (or boy!) got it for her.

Given that you have a smartphone, you've probably thought a lot about responsible usage. It's definitely time to speak with her about that, and to explain why you think she's not ready yet. (I'm assuming that you agree with this policy. I don't, but I don't live in your community.)

The issue here is not the phone, but how you deal with your daughter's totally natural and healthy desire to become independent.

Love and respect, love and respect.
