Ummm no. Chicago is expensive. Maybe not manhattan prices but getting there. And other Midwest cities are also expensive. Especially the places that are on the water (like in Michigan or Wisconsin) or have other sights like skiing (Denver etc.
plus when people hear about perks for moving to certain places (like school vouchers in Ohio) right away real estate goes thru the roof and the people who need the most help are priced out.
Op could be in a bunch of Midwest cities. Don’t beat her while she’s down.

Frum areas? Very very rare.

Check into the Jewish areas of Detroit, Milwaluke, St louis, Pittsburg. You might be able to get for beneath 2 mil. dollars.

I'm from cleveland. There are no $2 million houses here. Maybe $1.5 million for a huge, gorgeous, brand new construction house in Beachwood. But not $2 million. Maybe I am missing something though...

OP has not returned to answer the basic question of where in the Midwest she is struggling to find a house for less than 2 million.

What is the price of houses in Denver Colorado? I heard it's very unaffordable.

She did not say all homes are that price just here dream home.

I'm also in Cleveland. Cleveland Heights, where houses are around $200 K or so. We're not even buying. We're renting forever. I don't feel it's that small a house--- it's certainly bigger than we need, though we only have 2 kids--- but we could easily have 5-6 in this size house. Plenty of places in the frum midwest for well under a mil. We've considered moving to Milwaukee which is also very affordable.

I just double checked the US map to make sure. How is Denver not the midwest?

It is part of the west on all the regional maps I looked at.

I found in the Frum world anything between NY and Ca. can be called the midwest.

Maybe you should reframe perfect
My house is perfect for me because it’s what I was able to afford. Is it a dream home - not in the slightest
Is it in the perfect area - not even a little
But I’m grateful because it’s mine and it basically serves the purpose

I’m really curious what you mean by this.
In your circles, do people buy $2mm homes for cash; and so you figure if OP is tight, she can simply take out a mortgage, and then afford the monthly payments easily enough? I guess monthly payments are about $10k/month.

Yeah it sounded like she was saying she needs 2 million dollars to buy a house. I have a friend that also told me she needs x amount to buy a house… idk a few people I know bought for cash but the majority of people take out a mortgage. You don’t need 2 million in cash. You need a job and a payment plan.
