Other optometrists that are also trained in vision therapy, functional, behavioral and developmental vision issues in the area that take insurance are dr Harvey richman and dr Moshe Roth.
There is also Sarah Lane but I don’t know if she takes insurance https://www.focusvisioncenter.com/

Has anyone gone to Dr. Press and NOT been prescribed prism glasses? So far everyone I have spoken to went and got prism glasses. About 50% said it made a difference and 50% said it didn't. I am wondering if this is the treatment given to everyone when only needed for some. Dr. Alexander's office said to call back in May for an appointment in November. I'd prefer not to wait until then as my son is really having a hard time with kriah. Dr. Klapper gave him glasses for far sighted and said did not need prism. My son who is 7 says he does not see any differently with them.

Most people who go to Dr Press are prescribed prism glasses, because they are going based on another expert's opinion, that they get evaluated by Dr Press because it seems like they would benefit from Prism. I took my children to Rabbi Weber, who felt that they were strong candidates for Prism, and only after that did I take them to Dr Press.
Baruch Hashem it has helped a lot. Dr Press said that one of my children has convergence but is compensating beautifully. However, she was complaining of headaches, and therefore we decided to treat. B'H the headaches stopped with the Prism. Please note that once a child starts wearing glasses extra Kriah practice is needed to get the full benefit.
Re Dr Klapper, I asked Rabbi Weber as he is more affordable, but he hadn't had much experience with him. We decided that with such a complex and controversial topic we would be better off going with someone who comes highly recommended.

I ended up going to rabbi Weber. He said her kriah problem is mostly a processing issue and that his program will me a massive help for her, so we are starting that. She Also has a minor eye problem which adds a bit of extra strain to reading, and that I should go to dr press if I want to get her prism glasses for it.

I've been to both Dr Klapper and Dr. Press. The experience didn't even compare. Dr Klapper totally missed the issue and didn't give me enough of his time to really figure out what the issue is. I had wanted to save money so I went to him first, it was a total waste of time. He recommended OT/vision therapy and completely missed that my son is just farsighted and therapy would have been a huge waste of time and money. I was already using Dr Press for my older daughter and since I wasn't thrilled with the way Dr Klapper treated the appointment, I felt that I needed to go to Dr Press for a second opinion. Dr Press is amazing, skilled, patient and will take the time to get the to route of the problem. I am seeing him for two of my children, one with prism and one without.

Being new to Lakewood, I went to Dr press based on Imamothers recommendation.
I have lots of experience with eye doctors and I would not recommend him.
I was so disappointed by the evaluation. When the appointment was over I just couldn't believe that this is the appointment I was anxiously waiting for for months. And that I paid a few hundred dollars for the appointment.
He prescribed plus glasses for my son which my son doesn't need. I have no clue why people are so excited over him. He did a regular eye exam that any eye doctor does.
No vision exam which I was told that he also does.
Even after applying the eye drops, the doctor checked his eyes literally right after applying it.. It takes time for the drops to enlarge the eye ball.
I don't want to go into identifying details but I have lots of experience with eye doctors, he really is just a regular eye doctor who prescribes glasses even when unnecessary.
I know I am a lone voice. But this is my experience.

I took 3 members of my family to Dr press and only 1 of them was prescribed prism glasses.

Interestingly, My husband was having eye issues that was never dealt with as a child, we were recommended to go to Dr Press and gave him a different prescription (not prisms) my husband couldn't wear them he would be dizzy after wearing them for 10 minutes, so we were told to go to England and Dr Alexander really did magic it still wasn't prisms but it really helped.
So I would recommend really doing your research before picking which Dr to go to, it really depends on how severe the situation is...

It’s not just you. This has been coming up more and more about Dr Press in my line of work in peds, to the point where my colleagues and I have stopped recommending him to parents. My sister took my nephew to him and had a very similar experience to yours.

I use Dr Klapper for my son and I'm very happy there. I feel he's honest and he diagnosed my son properly. I would recommend him.

Hi guys please can we stop with the lashon harah? Take down negative comments? I originally opened this thread with my screen name so no one had to leave negative feedback publicly. (But I got the info I need)
Please just comment if you have something positive to say. If anybody wants to needs to hear more than that they can share their username or anon email... It's not necessary to slander a business or specialist publicly, this thread will be up for years ...

It’s not “lashon hara” 🙄
Please stop twisting the halachos out of context. No one slandered or dragged his name through the mud. Everything that was said was l’toeles.
I don’t know if you’re aware that Dr Press doesn’t take insurance and the fee per visit is high. It would come at a great financial loss to pay out of pocket for a service of lesser quality/effectiveness that will not end up benefitting the child. Why is the theoretical “loss” of money from a new patient more important than a parent actually losing money they painstakingly scraped together, only to end up with a big loss and having to pay again to see another specialist? Our time+money matters too.
