Our minhag is to see the fish live before we buy it. Does anyone know which stores are still offering this service? It's quite late in the game and most stores aren't doing it anymore. TIA

It sounds kind of cruel. I imagine the minhag is like cutting the ends off the brisket and was probably to make sure the fish was fresh.

You can try Levertov in crown heights.
(347) 533-6004
I’ve seen live fish there.
We also used to get live fish from there.

You can't get actual live salmon in America. Freund's and some other places will have with a hechsher certifying that a mashgiach was present when it was caught. Legally, salmon needs to be flash frozen when caught.

Pesach for those that hold by it...
But those people don't eat salmon on Pesach because it's impossible to get live salmon.

We don’t eat store bought food. We make everything from scratch hence why we buy a fish and clean it at home and make some g fish. With carp and forgot the other fish some onions salt and carrots.

It's frozen first.
What is considered sushi grade salmon?
Sushi-grade fish is caught quickly, bled upon capture, gutted soon after, and iced thoroughly. Known parasitic fish, such as salmon, should be frozen at 0°F for 7 days or flash-frozen at -35°F for 15 hours. This will kill any parasites, making the fish safe for consumption.

It isn't live - it isn't even live at the Tsukiji Market where the best sushi chefs in Japan shop for the best fish
It could be pristine in terms of quality but it wouldn't be live. Also the best sushi for salmon would be wild caught and not farm raised and that wouldn't be live either.
I have actually been to a few Asian markets that sell live fish from tanks but I haven't ever seen salmon there.

There definitely are stores that bring it in this time of year. I missed the boat though.

What about milk? Do you watch it come from the source? Do you watch chicken and meat get Schechted?
