I need a decent but inexpensive hotel, near Far Rockaway? We will have a car.
We are also looking for things to do while there, we have a 14 month old.

Since you'll have a car there's the jewish chidrens museum in crown heights, the brooklyn childrens museum, a walk through botanic gardens if its nice out (that's in brooklyn too)

Islip is not too close to Far Rockaway, it's about an hour at least- are you renting a car? All the JFK hotels are close to Far Rockaway, and they are pretty inexpensive.
