But if you have no intention of ever returning to the US, there isn't much the IRS can do about it if you don't pay. Also, if you earn under $85,000, you're exempt from US income tax. Of course, now that Obama is in, that exemption might go the way of the dinosaur.

Interesting conversation...........
I for one voted for McCain, and probably would have voted for almost anyone but NObama, Puke
Sorry left leaning dems for a whole host of reasons, but none of that matters now.........damage done.
To be honest, we would love to move, but we have been thinking about doing that for quite some time. Obama getting in for us was like the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. The only problem is that with him in the white house, most likely it will be a long time before we could sell our home for what it is/ or should I say was worth. Not to mention I don't think employment prospects will be too great in this country for who knows how long.

We would love to make allyah, and G-d willing, soon

Because property values have been rising over the past 6 months of the Bush presidency. Yep, you could have made a bundle on your place before the election, what with rising values and the easy availability of credit. Its Obama's election that's causing all the trouble. Rolling Eyes

You're right that the current economic crisis isn't going away quickly. But it wouldn't have had McCain been elected, either. Anyone who expects Obama to perform miracles will be disappointed. All we can hope is to start moving in the right direction.

That's what I was wondering. Move to EY to get away from Barack "Socialized Medicine" Obama. And what do they have in EY? Scratching Head

Wait, Barbara, what are you hinting at? Is there a problem with the housing market? I had no idea. And that man hasn't even been sworn in yet -- look at all the trouble he's already caused!

Right! And wasn't he supposed to prevent us from burning our kugels?! Well, it's even worse than I thought! I was running behind schedule this week and didn't even have time to make any kugel! Boy, he campaigned for "change" -- and I'm still just as lousy a cook as I was before the election!

Whoever thinks that they are "safe" are fools. One should not feel complacent regardless of who the leader of the United States is. I am of the opinion that in galus, a Jew should always have a valid passport available and ready- just in case. Even if McCain won, I would still be running to get a passport for dd.

Do you usually make kugel for Shabbat? If so, then this was clearly the change promised; Obama's work is done. Time for the presidential library.

Oy did I step into a can of worms here? Rolling Eyes
I agree with you octopus. With everything that has been happening here and abroad, between the worldwide rise in anti-semitism (again) and multiple kosher meat plants closing down for various reasons, (don't want to open another can of worms Shaking ) that maybe it is a siman? It seems that IMYH, EY will be going back to the right and vote in Likud, and Bibi, which sounds better to me then the Olmert/Livni/Barack trio.

I also didn't say that Obama is to blame for our problems, although he was one of the Dem's that voted against any kind of reform on the banking industry, and he got an awful lot of money from fannie mae, and he was tied in to some of the worst people.... I just don't believe that his answers are the right answers. I just remember all too well the Carter days, and how difficult life was for everyone, and I don't want to relive that if I don't have to. 8)

There's an element of truth to that and maybe more. You don't need to get elected to cause either good or trouble, it's enough to be a candidate with a chance of getting in.

While there was (even just) proposed drilling in Alaska, or wherever in mainland USA, oil prices started falling. Now that Obama is in, the cartel no longer needs to fear that, so I expect that oil prices will go back up. Sad

Oil prices went down because of falling demand. It had nothing to do with talking of drilling in Alaska. The Bush administration has been talking about drilling in Alaska for 8 years, so obviously, just talking about drilling in Alaska does not impact oil prices.

It was more than just talk. The difference is at that point both candidates started saying "Drill" is okay, at least short term.

I wouldn't be suprised if they 'gradually' draw statistics from a team of 'experts' that say the Jewish mindset neh that wouldn't be diplomatically correct, so how about the 'Israeli influence' are the cause of the financial crisis look who is even incharge of most of these banks etc.

Well since I am no prophet I guess we shall wait and see who 'they' are if this will even indeed occur or Moshiach will hit our shores first.
