good habits established in childhood serve you well forever after

how about if we compile a list of those things, both physical and spiritual, that we think are good habits to inculcate in our children

I'll start:

to say please, thank you, excuse me, I'm sorry

to start the day with Modeh Ani and negel vasser

to say boruch Hashem, im yirtze Hashem, bli neder

to look people in the eye and give them their attention when talking to them

how about TABLE MANNERS!

it drives me nuts to have to sit next to people who eat with their hands, dont know what a napkin is for, and lick their fingers!!
im losing my appetite just thinking about it.

cleanliness habits: brushing teeth/flossing, showering, etc.

something I think should be ingrained: brachos and davening every morning when you wake up

RG I agree Smile

- Close ones mouth when eating, not to talk with mouth full of food.
- To acknowledge someone who addresses you, and not to ignore.
- To go to washroom, or atleast open a window when that someone expels gas.
- To offer guests food first b/4 taking oneself etc etc etc
Very Happy

To respect adults: not to rush through a door before an adult, not to take a place at a simcha unless the adults are seated, etc.

hold the door open for the person behind you
you're welcome
help someone carry heavy pkgs
clean up after yourself(toys/food)
come on time to appointments and meetings(not make s/o wait for you)
if running late, call
when s/o enters your house/see person on the street greet them(even family members, like your husband)

I am your constant companion. I am your greatest helper or heaviest burden. I will push you onward or drag you down to failure. I am completely at your command. Half the things you do you might just as well turn over to me, and I will be able to do them quickly, correctly. I am easily managed - you must merely be firm with me. show me exactly how you want something done, and after a few lessons I will do it automatically. I am the servant of all great people; and alas, of all failures as well. Those who are failures, I have made failures. I am not a machine, though I work with all the precision of a machine plus the intelligence of a human being. You may run me for a profit or turn me for ruin - it makes no difference to me. Take me, train me, be firm with me, and I will place the world at your feet. Be easy with me and I will destroy you.

What am I?

a habit

p.s. I have no idea whether this was posted in the Riddle thread but I wasn't going through 40+ pages to find out and it belongs here anyway!
