I have been asked by an acquaintance to host her mil this Shabbos. The family is having a bar mitzvah at the shul which is a block from my house. The mil cant walk the mile from the families home to the shul, which is why they asked if we could house her for Shabbos. The thing is should we invite the family over to our house for Shabbos dinner? They are having lunch and Sudah at the shul but not a friday night dinner.

what is the question? if you should host the whole family or the mil for fri night? certainly offer to host the mil for any meals she needs, but why should you make a meal for the whole family if they are not even friends? how many people are they? it might be 25 people or more!

no way - I'm sure they have it all set and merely need a place for the mother ... people don't announce the friday night dinner which I'm sure they're making quietly at home ... but you can ask what the friday night plan for the mil is - and you'll get the scoop ...

Thanks, I figured they would have something going on, but I felt I had to ask them over if for no other reason then appearances sake. I think they do have other relatives coming in now also because when dh called them they were running back and forth from the airport just now.

appearance sake ... you're kidding ... what if they said yes - we need dinner for 30 - 40 people ...
seeing that you're that easy - I got a few of my own requests of you ...

No way! What you're doing is plenty. I'm sure they're making provisions for Friday night, even if you don't know about it b/c it's not in the shul.
