A new baby needs cloth diapers, onesies, some one peice snap up sleepers, (those are easiest) diapers, bottles and formula if not breastfeeding, a couple of recieving blankets for swaddling, if it is hot, some one piece rompers, a GOOD stroller (that is the piece of equipment you will use most, the one I advise NOT to skimp on, anything else is not as neccesary) a crib, crib sheets, car seat, swing/bouncer if colicky, and plenty of love and patience!
I hope I didnt miss out on anything, are you due in the summer? Because hot and cold weather take on completely different needs, especially if you live on the east coast.
You can PM me if you want, as I am IY"H due in the summer.

this depends where you live. I'm in new york and I 100% agree with you, but it might not be so for someone living in a different type of place.

A few things I forgot!!! A baby tub, baby shampoo, pacifiers if using, a thermometer, infant tylenol. You do NOT need a bumper set if you are on a budget. Your baby will not move around much, all you need is a sheet. By the time the baby moves around you will need to REMOVE the bumper for safety. If your baby is born in the winter, you will need a snowsuit. Most are on sale now, so ask someone else to buy you one in a neutral color and keep it (if you do things like that). Some rattles and toys and mobiles are always good, but dont go overboard.
Good Luck!

Your breasts and arms, a safe sleeping space, and some stretchies and onesies. Throw in some diapers if you don't want to EC and a baby carrier (sling, wrap, etc) helps with convenience.
A new baby does not NEED all that much at all.

I know this isn't the natural parenting section, I'm just giving my opinion. Take it or leave it. A good piece of advise for a new mom- you're going to have to learn how to sift through all the advice you're going to get and how to trust yourself.

we got as a prezzie when our first was born a pack and play with a bassinet attatchement and she slept in that for 8 months, then she moved into a big crib that we got as a handme down, it was within all the right regulations
I wasl ucky, my MIL had a baby 9 months b4 me so right there was our wing and bouncy chair but personally only one is necesarry.
after a few months we moved to Oregon for a few months and she had the pack and play, portable booster high chiar and a blanket with toys and thats it, she learned ot crawl faster htat way. its always good to have a back up bottle even if ur nursing
onsies nad stretchies/gowns are perfect for newborns and little socks if the stretchies dont have feet, target nad walmart have gr8 prices if u buy their brand

Exactly my thoughts upon reading the title of the thread.
Babies don't need much, especially in the beginning.

My youngest grandchild lives in Yerushalyim. His crib and infant seat came from a gemach, as well as some clothing. We furnished an 'agolah' (stroller), rattles, Dr Spock book, some clothing, thermometer, nail clippers, and pacifiers. I don't think that many frum families there have showroom nurseries.

if you're breastfeeding, the food's all there.
Pampers, onesies, recieving blankets, and some stretchies should get you started.
A car seat, carriage and crib were three really important things for me.

don't feel bad- I got everything for nursery & my baby doesn't even sleep there! all the stuff is pretty much useless.
don't buy everything at once- just basic necessities. after awhile you see what u & the baby really need.
don't know where u live, but there are gemachs where they give u layettes & can borrow cribs & such...
