Here is what I have found to be the best things to know when traveling to Israel

It's often times cheaper to rent an apartment then to stay in then stay in a hotel. You can check
www.luach.com www.janglo.net www.craigslist.com for apartment rentals

Traveling by bus is the cheapest way to get around, but just note you can wait for an hour for the bus to come, they are crowded and stuff, and it can take up to two hours to get to a place that should take 20 min. Renting a car is a great option. go to www.traveldealisrael.com for cheap car rentals

Hope this helps!! Enjoy your time in Israel!

FYI - if you are on a tourist visa, you can reserve a car rental through an agent over the phone and get a huge discount over walking into the place. For example, for a G car, if you walk into Budget it'll be about $50/day. If you do it through an agent, it is about $35/day, and no daily rate (only minimal insurance fee) for Shabbos.
