Give me your opinion on that.

Take the word "hardware". We know how it is pronounced. But to be understood, many professionals here say it hardwahr (like "far"). I hate it and think it sounds uneducated. What do you think?

In my profession, we talk to our audience. We don't resort to crude terms, but we make sure we use familiar terms. Depending on the area, one can find themselves saying rather interesting things. I don't think I ever said 'baby mama' & 'baby daddy' in my life, until I got a job working at an inner city L & D unit. Subsequently, it became a rather regular part of my vocabulary.

Ruchel, this may not mean much to you but here in the states, you can have a Rhodes scholar from the deep south, and some English skinhead, and as long as the skinhead doesn't speak in a Cockney accent and make too many grammatical errors, most people would guess that the latter has the higher IQ.
Other than actual mispronunciation (e.g nucular) I don't think people should get too hyped up over accents though.

I confess to being jarred when the American OB talks about being so many SAHNtimeters dilated even while letting you know your requisition will be in an EHNvelope.

Are you sure the people who use "hardwahr" don't also use "dinnerwahr" and "underwahr"? In that case, that may be not a phony enunciation, but a bona fide accent, nicht wahr?

On my job we try to tailor our speech to the audience, avoiding professional jargon as much as possible when speaking to the public. It's not always possible. I try to remember to define my terms before using them. To a mathematician, a "beautiful curve" can be a straight line.
