We are due in Feb beh and are in the process of picking names. My husband and I really love the names Sophia or Sophie. However, what in the world would/could be her hebrew name, Tzofit?
TIA

DD's good friend is Sophie - Tzofia - from Eshet Chayil. It's very common among Sephardim.
I love the name, it's beautiful.

I know a Sophie who is Mizrachi, her Jewish name is Tzalcha (Judeo Arabic).
Some Sofias are Shaindel/Shayna.
I'm not familiar with the name Tzofia.

OP- my siddur has translation in it and I see that Tzofia haliychot betahh... translated to "She keeps watch over her household" So for those of you more knowledgeable in Hebrew then I, does Tzofia mean a watchful person??

Yes - exactly - for example Har Hatzofim is a lookout point because it's high up and you can see the Kotel from there. Tzofeh Umabit - means watchful and looking.

That would be the Tzofit - Guardian translation that my BIL used for my neice Sofi.

My Ashkenazi cousins named their daughter Tzofia (from Eishet Chayil)... of course she came after KA'H 6 or 7 boys... LOL
I've heard of Sophia and Tzofia used here in Israel... both are pretty common.

Professor Beider mentions Sophia, Zofye, Sofia... as Yiddish names. Also Sofle/Zofle, Sonia/Sonye.

My great grandmother Sophie's Hebrew name was Tsivya. I think Tsivya is a beautiful name - it means gazelle. It is a Biblical name - she was a tzadekes and was the mother of Yehoash, who became king of Israel when he was seven.
