Lots of the companies sold in Israel have excellent sandals that are very supportive called "Tzaad Rishon" like Nimrod, Elephanten etc. Go to Ludmir they have great service.
They are off Mea Shearim on Rechov Chessed Leavraham, the store number is 6282126, they are usually closed between 2-5.

There is debate as to whether or not extra ankle support ("high tops") is a benefit or a detriment at that age. DS#1 had Papayas that we were thrilled with. A thick sole is trouble if it's not flexible. You want it to be as though they are barefoot; shoes are not so good for feet, so the closer they are to natural flexibility the better. (I test them as I mentioned already above.)

Some name brands that OP might want to look out for are Gali, Nimrod, Elefanten, and Papaya. Again, some knock off brands are great; others aren't.

Im debating between going to town and just walking around looking for stores, or going to the hadar mall in talpiot to that nimrod outlet. Any suggestions?

I was told not to put my daughter in trainers ie nikes because of the funny way she walks. I think high back sandals with closed toes are much better, its like a proper shoe just with holes in it, what is the difference

I guess it depends on the individual foot-issue. With my daughter's specific problem, we were told to put her in thick soles, sturdy backs, no sandals.

My DS is wearing sturdy closed-toe sandals now and he loves them (a present from his American Bubby) -- we tried sneakers a few months ago and he refused to wear them, but maybe that was because he wasn't walking well yet at the time, who knows. Anyone know when/where Payless is coming to Jerusalem, I thought they said June? DD2 had high-tops at 18 months and they looked so cute but were a huge pain to put on and they weren't supportive, I wouldn't recommend that.

I wasn't happy with her. I didn't think fit my ds well. After five weeks
I had to get him new shoes. I agree that its possible for a childs foot to grow, but he shouldnt have outgrown the shoes so fast, there should be a little growing room.

chaval u didn't go back to her she gurantees her shoes for 6 weeks if theres a prob!!!!!

Some ppl here are saying sandals can be just as supportive as shoes so that could be....I don't know Israeli shoes. But in general for the first pair, you just want to make sure its a good supportive shoe for their foot... but don't get something that's too thick and doesn't bend, the best type is something supportive but very flexible, like if you try to bend the shoe it has give...

it could be that you bought your child shoes right before a growth spurt, I know people who have bought their baby's first pair of shoes and had to get a bigger size 5 weeks later...

I just googled and found this thread, which is exactly what I need.

Where could I buy Nimrod shoes besides Ludmir? And how much do they cost?

Also, I can't decide what to do. I'm getting my baby's first shoes, and he's about 17 months old (late walker). I can't decide if I should get the closed-toe sandals now. If they last him into the summer, they would be perfect. But if they don't, it would have made sense to get full shoes. I'm also not sure if they'll be selling sandals now...

Any opinions? Thanks!

It is actually quite common for a baby to need new shoes after 6 weeks (give or take...) especially if your ds was under a year when he got his first pair of shoes, it is very likely that he grew.

(Yes, I know that this post is old but just for others who are reading this thread to know....)

I was very happy with Teshers. I find the Nimrod shoes to be expensive and cheaply made. Maybe if I shlepped to Talpiot and bought in the outlet it would have been better but I bought DD shoes in Nimrod and a month later they were ripped. I tried bringing them back to get repaired but after holding them for a week they insisted it was because she was walking funny (the rip was on the top of a closed toe sandal) I took younger Dd to Teschers and spent the same amount and 4 mos later she is still wearing her 1st pair

Is there an address/ phone number for Teschers in Jerusalem? Or alternatively a good place to buy Shabbos shoes for my 4 year old boy? Not Shabbos sneakers and I don’t want to order from the internet (ie Next).

This is a really old thread.

We have been very successful with boys shabbos shoes at Marty's in Geula, downstairs, 60nis/pair. Some break, but the worker there has been pretty accurate.
