Is it okay to wear a black leather bag in the summer? How about off-white leather? If not, can someone recommend a good summer handbag?

I use a cream leather handbag for work, and a finely woven straw bag for weekends (a high quality one like this: http://www.colehaan.com/coleha.....1273, not the $5 from target ones which I find extremely tacky, I find black and brown leather look odd with the light floaty skirts I tend to wear in the summer.

I have a lavender Longchamps bag & another few designer bags (colors!) all leather. A bit heavy to shlep but they look really classy.
Don't worry, the Fashion Police haven't reached you yet!

I think it is not so black and white anymore. I personally still wear a lot of dark colours in the summer, so A dark bag still works for me. But a straw bag is also a good solution for a really summery flowing look.

I'm pretty hard on my bags so a straw one wouldn't hold up although I love the look. (I have a small woven straw clutch that I use at night) You can definitely do a leather bag but why not try one in a bright color like yellow or blue? Colors are so in right now and you can find some really good quality bright leather bags in most dept stores.

It also depends what phase of your life you're in. At this point my purse is half diaper bag so leather is great for the "wipe down" feature. Canvas or straw is harder with all my kids' messy hands. That said, I love something like this b/c it holds all my kid stuff (snacks, sippy cup, diapers) but looks summery and cute. New clothes beckon louder than a new purse, for me, so I haven't gotten one yet though.
