We have 2 relatives named Charlotte to name for. I love the name, but one of them had a yiddish name that we really don't like, and we don't know the other one's Hebrew name. Does anyone know what could be the Hebrew version of Charlotte?

You could choose something that starts with a similar sound:
Sharon
Shoshana
Shifra

Or go by meaning. Charlotte means "free man" or "strong woman", so you could choose a name of a woman with those characteristics:

Devorah
Miriam
Chava
Yehudis
Yael
Yocheved
(you could get pretty creative if you go in this direction)

I personally would not go with Cherut. Have rachmanus on your daughter and give her a normal name that she'll be comfortable with!

Charlotte is from karl, meaning man. Period. Like Andrea, from andros, man. Yup.

That said, Charlotte is often Shaindel or Chana. Can you translate the Yiddish names?

Or use Sharlot "shalom rav leohave toratecha"

I've never heard of Sharlat in Hebrew - and I live in Israel.
I know a Charlotte whose Hebrew name is Shulamit.

OP, let us know what you decide. I'm curious.

My grandmother's name was Charlotte and in hebrew (really yiddish) she was Chasiah - my husband and I have discussed and think that Shoshana is a nice hebrew name to match since we didnt really care for Chasiah.

Please do let us know what you pick!

I agree. I would choose Cherut over some of the other names mentioned here but I'm not going to say anything negative about other people's suggestions because names are a matter of personal taste.

Channa is Not Charna. No link.
Charna means dark.

Really? What would the Hebrew version of Charna be?

My grandmother, Charna, who is in her 90's ka"h, told me that when she was a little girl in Poland she called herself Chana instead of Charna because she didn't like her name. Her aunt yelled at her for changing her name, so she went back to calling herself Charna.

Charlotte is a derivative of Charles (French) - strong man. Obviously when when this name is given to a female, the gender is changed since the name is clearly a female name.

In that case, Hebrew equivalents would be Eitana or Gavriella.
