Does anyone have an opinion on whether now is a good time to buy a house? I have been following the housing market, and can't get enough opinions.

We bought not to long ago and were told to buy if we were in it for the long haul and as a primary residence.

If you are buying a house now that you will live in for a long while, and can stay there while the market dips and rises, then its the best investment for your money. If you are planning to buy something small that you might outgrow in 2 years and you will have to sell right then, its hard to tell how the market will be in 2 years. But if you can stay in the house if the market suddenly crashes, it wont matter so much because you can just wait for the market to go back up again, whether that be months or years.

it's always a good investment...depending on your rent, of course...if you have a $30 or $80 monthyl rent on your section 8 apt, it's not cheaper for you.
I have a friend who owns a home but can't afford to live there b/c of that scenario.
