I hate the word balabusta. I know it's supposed to be a compliment, but all it does is make me think of fat busty ladies.

Balabusta evocates a June Cleaver type to me, or a pregnant-bare foot-overweight-sweating in the kitchen type LOL

One thing that really drives me crazy (I don't know if anyone said this yet) is when adults talk to babies in baby talk. It's bad enough when the kid calls his bottle "botty" and you ask him if he wants his botty; but when he doesn't even talk yet, and you offer him a "nana", how will he know to try and say banana?

When Im talking to my baby I end up saying things like wheres your nooznooz instead of noozy (nose) or you want your dumdum instead of dummy (pacifier) and it drives dh nuts!! I guess its just a wierd way of shortening things or most prob coz my mother talked to her babies like that LOL

Yes! I went to elementary school with a girl who always used to sum up her comments in class by saying, "So the point is, is that..."

Drove me cuckoo then, drives me cuckoo now.

"Where are you holding?" instead of "how much progress have you made so far?" or even "what's your current situation?"

I'm not holding anything. And even if I were, it would most certainly not be a place.

I think "I could care less" is American English because I have never heard it in British English.

Phrases that annoy me:

"could of" and "shoud of" instead of "could have" and "should have"

"pacific" instead of "specific"

"literally" when it isn't (I literally killed myself laughing!)

"I was sat on a chair" instead of "I was sitting..." or "I sat"

"very unique"

"less" instead of "fewer"

if I remember correctly from 3rd grade.... could've/should've is short for could have/should have

You are absolutely correct Liebs, only people actually spell it that way! And I've even seen it here on imamother many times!
To add some of my own:
my DH says "higher the volume" instead of "raise" it. shock drives me nuts.
And when we were first married he used to think it was called A "frigirator".
But he is an amazing and smart man, and I don't mean this in a bad way! Smile

"Inhead of" instead of "ahead of" - drives me CRAZY!

"I should be there at two, or two fifteen?" - It's "Should I," people!

"Sleep over me"

"Go bathroom"

And another vote for the written "could of" and "should of," along with "aloud" instead of "allowed."

Syntactic mistakes really do drive me insane, as do spelling errors.

OTOH, I'm glad no one here is assessing my mathematical skills! embarrassed

I hate, absolutely despise when people respond with "DUUUUUH???!!"
It is positively revolting, repugnant and obnoxious.

using the word "by" incorrectly as in:

"Whose house are you eating by for Shabbos?"

Or...
"Can my daughter sleep by your house tomorrow night?'

I can't stand how all the teens and older than that say "random" about everything.
"that's so random..."
"she's so random..."
it doesn't mean anything!!!!!!!!!!!!
