I have a large mirror in my front room, not removable from the wall because it's very heavy. Recently I noticed that whenever I clean it, there are streaks when the sunlight enters the room. I have tried the basics such as Windex with a rag, also Shaklee with their special "magic" cloth, which also leaves streaks, lol! I once heard that newspaper works well, but don't know how to use it; do I spray the mirror OR the newspaper or just use the newspaper dry? Also can it be that all my cleaners in the past have left an oily residue on the mirror which must first be removed? I'm desparate because you see the mirror as soon as you enter the house...

What sort of motion do you use when you clean your mirrors?

I spray the mirror and wipe it with a newspaper sheet until it is completely dry. I never had any streaks issue.

My aunts also do that: Spray the mirror and wipe in a circular motion with newspaper.

I use paper towels and windex, although FIL says newspaper works great too.

Faigy86, I have a large round mirror, so I use the circular motion...still no luck. I read on another post that someone mentioned that sometimes a mirror is "old" and will never get rid of the streaks - mine is only about five years old, is it time to replace it?

Have you tried just a slightly damp microfiber cloth?

I do that too and never see streaks. Just make sure the paper towel is a good brand.

Use a steamer! They can be costly, but they are great for cleaning any part of your home

try methylated spirits

but really if it's in the path of a stream of light it's going to be hard to not have any streaks showing. Can you move it? or block it with something?

I use a 100% cotton rag (diaper or anything that's only cotton) to wipe my mirrors/windows with whatever I spray them... Be it basic h/water, windex or ammonia with with water spray. It comes out gorgeous with no residue of the rag left.
