Hi,
My kids could eat shnitzel tiras every day :( I was wondering if anyone had a homemade recipe for something similar?
Has anyone had success with any veggie/legume burger recipes? nothing too spicy.
thanks

From alpidarko on another thread:
1-1/2 cup tvp or mashed black beans or mashed pinto beans or ?
If using tvp, soak for 15 minutes in 1-1/2 cups boiling water.
Add:
2 eggs
1/2 cup oats
1/4 cup water
6 T flour
2 T soy sauce
2 T ketchup
2 t salt
Shape into patties and pan fry. This recipe makes 14 medium-sized veggie patties (about the size of a Morningstar Farms package of veggie burgers).
Cost of burger (w/tvp): $0.15
Cost of one bun: $0.06
Cost of fixings (lettuce, cheese, tomato, onions, pickles, mustard, mayo, ketchup): $0.10
It's a bit on the bland side (but a big kid hit!). I think next time I'll spice it up a little more with garlic, maybe hot sauce, possibly diced onion... Pretty good!

I have read in many places this is the best veggie burger recipe you can find- the woman who posted this published it as a vegan recipe after testing over 100 burgers; here is the recipe... if you want the vegan link, I have posted it below:
Whitewater Veggie Burgers
Ingredients
1 tbsp. vegetable oil
1 onion, diced
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tbsp. cumin
1 1/2 tbsp. chili powder
1-19 oz can black beans, rinsed, drained and roughly pureed
1 tsp. oregano
1/4 cup parsley OR cilantro, chopped
2 tbsp. sesame oil
1/2 cup almonds, roasted and chopped
1 cup sunflower seeds, roasted and chopped
3 cups fine bread crumbs
1/2 cup soy sauce
5 eggs
2 cups carrots, grated
2 cups oats
flour for dredging
2 tbsp. vegetable oil
Method
In a large skillet, saute onions and garlic in oil. Place in a large mixing bowl and let it cool a little. Add remaining ingredients. Mix well and shape into patties. Dredge lightly in flour. Heat vegetable oil in a large pan to brown the burgers on both sides, you may need to do this in batches with more oil.
