The concerns about soy for health involve the protein.

I am at high risk for breast cancer and as such have been told to avoid soy protein but soy oil, margarine, etc are ok (if you are really allergic they are not as there may be traces of the protein, but nutritionally, they are not significant).

As for soy formula, the current preference is for hydrolyzed over soy for management of milk protein intolerance and colic, as per the latest AAP statement. Soy should not be used for babies simply because it is pareve.
