Where, in Brooklyn - preferably Midwood/Flatbush, if not, then Boro Park - can you buy the heavyweight, clear plastic, zippered challah cover protectors?

Eichlers.com has zippered protectors on their website. They are intended for tallis/tefillin bags, but they are flat and theoretically could be used for the table too.

torah treasures on L between nostrand and 31st custom made one for us years ago. you can call them to see if they still do that, or if they stock them.

Any judaica store will order it for you. You just have to give them the measurement of your challah cover.
