For those who consider themselves middle class in Brooklyn, how much money do you invest in your house, say over 20 years time, and every year on average? (and how much is your home worth approximately? and do you have a 1, 2, or 3 family house- include how much you spent on entire house even if it's multi family.)
this is for repairs, remodeling, fixing up concrete outside, garage, basement, changing windows and floors, painting, house, adding rooms or extensions to home etc. every that goes into fixing or remodeling a house.

I'm wondering about this because someone told me that many people (middle class) really don't invest in their house, leave their house pretty much the way it is for 20 years, and I found that hard to believe, but person who told me this said they themselves put a substantial amount in.
