Couldn't find the answer online (yet. I often find something I've been looking for only after I humble myself to ask others Rolling Eyes )

I don't think so. I'm no WIC expert, but these are state-specific and state-administered programs.

No way, NY state cashes these 'checks'. NJ stores wont get any $ from NJ state tax payers for a Nyer.
Sorry but very not likely to happen.

I'm pretty sure not. Medicaid and wic are funded in thirds (federal, state, county) so you generally can't cross over

I would have thought it makes no difference who funds the checks, the store deposits the check in the bank and the NYS WIC program pays the value of the check. I mean, I'm obviously wrong, but my bank can find me no matter where my checks are deposited...

Another thing is that different counties allow different amounts for different items. For example, when I wanted to start using my checks in Brooklyn, that I got in Long Island, the grocer did a check to see that he would be getting the same amount for the items, and that it would be covered. So it could be that different states allot different amounts as well.

PS- you can use Medicaid in other states. (For ER/hospital only I think, because everything else goes by HMO).

Medicaid will cover emergent care (ER visits and emergent hospitalizations) from state to state, but not MD visits (unless Medicaid override is obtained for specialist, for example) or pharmacy. And not everyone has their Medicaid managed by HMO. Unfortunately, there are plenty of really sick people who qualify for straight Medicaid

I'm not from Brooklyn but never had any problem using my checks there. The quantities and $ max are right there on the checks, they check them wherever you are.

OK, next question then: Does anyone know a store in Brooklyn that accepts WIC and is open LATE motzei Shabbos?! Basically my grocery trip didn't happen yet, we're in NJ for Shabbos, and our checks expire at midnight Saturday... lots because I got behind on my errands lately and I like to save it until I can get to a store that will give you cholov yisroel, pas yisroel, etc.

Hm. I think I did Mountain Fruit once and found it more of a hassle than other WIC stores but that's not too far out of my itinerary path I think. Thanks for the help, imamother rocks!
