My parents were at their shul dinner tonight. This evening, the shul publicly awarded special plaques to members who are in their 25th year with the shul. My parents were called up to receive their plaque together. The thing is, they have been divorced for nearly 20 of those years, and are both remarried and were sitting with their respective spouses  AWKWARD! Luckily for the shul, they have always been on good terms, so they saw the humor in it and had a good laugh. The president apologized profusely, but they told him it's totally fine. Anyway, they called me to tell me about, and we all had a good laugh, so I just thought I'd share

As I said, they've been members for 25 years, so obviously the machers (rabbi, gabbai, president etc) are aware. My guess is that whoever did the plaques was some young person in the office who was given a list of families who joined in 87-88 and didn't think to check further. Like MamaBear said, somebody didn't do their homework. Oh well, if they're going to make a mistake like that, best to do it with amicably divorced people who are also good-humored...

I can totally understand why that is both embarrassing and funny....
At least they see the humorous side..poor innocent receptionist
