Luck y you that it’s your first. You’re so excited yourself, I’m sure it’s rubbing off on him. You might want to treat the kappel like a ‘treat’ and allow him to wear it now when he is good, for example if he picks up the toys, he can wear the kappel when he eats his supper…. If you distort it into a ‘price’ then he will want it, but if you make it as a burden, he will yank it off after the upsherin. Don’t say things like ‘after your upsherin, you will be a big boy… and you will have to wear a kappel’. That’s instilling the wrong image. Enjoy picking them out!

I put one on my son every shabbos so I didn't have this problem when he turned 3 he was already used to it - although he wouldn't let anyone cut his "payos" so they were as long as his long hair and we are not chassidish ... they have a cute book about an upsherin we also bought that ... before

My little sweetie loves to take his brothers' kippot and put it on his kepi. When he does we all clap and cheer and he smiles proudly. Of course, he takes it off a second later, but he is learning that it is good thing that earns him praise and that his Abba and big brothers wear one.

My son's upsherin will be in about 3 weeks be"H. This is my second son, so now we keep watching the video of my oldest son's upsherin to get him prepared. Maybe you could get a hold of a cousin's, neighbor's, friend's... upsherin.

My son is just so excited on his own about wearing a kapel and tzitzis, I hope the enthusiasm will hold up.

Does he go to gan/cheder? Peer pressure is it. If the other "big boys" are wearing so will he. I put from the bris according to the Baal Shem Tov so my probs were keeping tzitzis out of the toilet and dd wanting a kippa too.
