This hechsher is apparently out of L.A. Does anyone know anything about it? The symbol/stamp is an outline of the map of the U.S. (continental) with a K on the inside.

if you are referring to the one from CA. Most of the people I know, within the orthodox world, will not eat this Hechsher.
I do not know about other communities who do.

Ra mom, thanks for trying. I still can't tell from those links if it's reliable or not. Hoping someone has some first hand experience. (It's appearing on many of my Wilton products that used to be OV.)

I had heard from various people that he certifies places open on Shabbos, I found something online written to that effect - I think that is one of the main reasons why many people will not use his Hechsher.

Why would Wilton use an unreliable hechsher, they might as well not bother with a hechsher at all. I also noticed it but thankfully there are still quite a few Wilton prodcuts that do have the OU, you just have to check everything individually.

The fact that other products have OU or OV doesn't help me if the product I need has this one. I need to know specifically about this hechsher.

No official kashrut organization is going to tell you anything other than yes, it's acceptable or no, we don't recommend it. There are legal issues involved. If you ask why it's not recommended you will be told "it doesn't meet our standards."
Frequently (but not always) a move from a "better" hechsher to a less acceptable one involves kashrus concerns - ingredients have changed, machinery technology has changed requiring different cleaning procedures that the company doesn't want to meet. Just giving examples, not saying anything about this hechsher or product. Could be price and company thinks it won't make a difference in their sales.
Merrymom, hard as I find it to believe, surveys have shown that many people who do not actually keep kosher in any way, shape or form like to buy products with some kind of kosher supervision. They feel it gives an added layer of consumer protection.
Marion, if you want a yes or no answer just email the Chicago Rabbinical Council or the COR or whoever you like and trust. If you want the real reason that will be more difficult.

Marion, look at the website. If those guys are the rabbonim, I think you can eat from them. Unless they're just wearing costumes, they should know about kashrut.

I just emailed them, and we'll see what they have to say about their hechsher.

I could easily be wrong, but I think they're two different heckhers.
The one Lady Godiva sites is KOA. It has a KOA in the outline of the US, and is under Rabbis Shloima Isaacson and Aaron Pessin.
The one Marion is talking about only has a K there, and is US Kosher Supervision, Rabbi Yehuda Bukspan.
Hope this helps.

Here is their answer:
Quote: | Yes we are orthodox. We are in fact a "chasidishe" chechsher. I am a Chasideshe Rov in Passaic NJ and desend from a whole line of "Rebbes". Rabbi Shloima Isaacson |
