Last night, Yeshivas Noam HaTorah had their annual dinner. It was in memory of Chaim Dovid, who learned there for 2 1/2 years. Rabbi Mendy Gelbwachs, the Menahel, was extremely close with Chaim Dovid and is now extremely close with my family.

Unbeknownst to us, 3 Bachurim from the Yeshiva had been learning L'Zaicher Nishmas Chaim Dovid, and they each made a Siyum at the dinner. It was really nice. R' Mendy Gelbwachs and my father spoke.

Their journal had a section in his memory. This was the ad that my siblings and I put in:

When Chaim Dovid fell ill three years ago,
He didn’t want to let his tremendous pain show.
As he went through his treatments, he made sure to smile.
He fought for his life for a very long while.

Throughout this hard time, the Yeshiva came to his aid.
He got frequent visits from the many friends he’d made.
The entire Yeshiva spent Shabbos at our side.
They inspired us and showed us that their hearts were open wide.

At the end, when Chaim Dovid couldn’t get out of bed,
Nights alone in the hospital would fill him with dread,
But he knew that there was no reason to fear;
The Yeshiva sent Bachurim to sleep with him there.

He spoke to Reb. Mendy Gelbwachs at least one time each day;
We appreciate it so much it’s impossible to say.
We got through this treacherous time thanks to you all,
Who were always there to lend a hand, to visit and to call.

Now that Chaim Dovid A”H is no longer here,
The Yeshiva hasn’t forgotten us, they’ve made it very clear.
Besides for teaching our boys Torah and Halacha,
Yeshivas Noam HaTorah is now part of our Mishpacha.

Beautiful. Though that barely even amazes me anymore after all we've seen from you here Wink

Dear the world's best mom,

I was at the dinner last night. I am a daughter of Rabbi Yosef/Yuzpa Gelbwachs. I want to let you know how much Chaim Dovid meant to my father. My father was in the hospital in the icu during Chaim Dovid's final days. (He is B"H much better). Chaim Dovid was always front and foremost on his mind. He was constantly asking us to ask Mendy how he was doing etc. When he was niftar, it was as if he lost a child. He told us about Chaim dovid's simchas hachaim and how he accepted Hashems will with so much bitachon. We were all crying along with you last night. May you and your family know only of simchas in the future.

Thank you so much. As you can see from the ads in the journal, your family has made a huge impression on my entire extended family and my whole community. Mendy was really Chaim Dovid's main lifeline while he was sick, and he speaks to my mother a few times a week now. The whole family and the Yeshiva have really gone above and beyond what anyone could have expected from a former Yeshiva.

Today is July 11, one English year since Chaim Dovid's Petira. His Yahrzeit is not until the 4th of Av, though.

A whole year has passed by since that dreadful day,
But our precious memories will never fade away.
We will cherish the memories; the good and the bad;
Of the best older brother we ever had.
We recount to our children, we really do strive
To keep all the precious memories alive.
There are times that we laugh; there are times that we cry,
As we make sure your legacy never will die.

It’s hard to believe a whole year has gone passed.
At times it was hard, but it seemed to go fast.
So much has happened since you left our side;
Our youngest sister became a bride.
Happy tears mixed with sad we were shedding,
For you weren’t there to dance at her wedding.
The pictures have seven girls but only one boy.
Your absence brought sadness despite our joy.

We display many pictures of you all around;
On computers and photo books your face can be found.
Although we can no longer be here together,
We make sure our children remember forever,
The wonderful uncle who showed them much love
Until his Neshama returned up above.
The kids had a Kesher with their Uncle Dovid
Who made all his neices and nephews feel beloved.

The hours of Chessed and the hours of learning;
The hours of pain and the hours of yearning;
The good times, the bad times, and the horrid ones too,
Showed us the meaning of faith that is true.
You faced each Nisayon; you were so very brave,
Even when your future really looked grave.
We watched you suffer for so very long;
We could not understand how you stayed so strong.

Yet you fought for your life with a happy face
Until you moved on to a much better place.
The pain and the fear have come to end,
As we all bid farewell to our brother and friend.
For the rest of our lives, we will feel we are lacking
Until Moshiach comes and sends us all packing,
And we’ll all live together; we’ll have a new home
In Yerushalayim, the city of stone.

Today, a new Sefer Torah was donated to Yeshivas Noam HaTorah in memory of Chaim Dovid A"H. We had a Hachnasas Sefer Torah in Lakewood. It was very nice.

Your poem is very well written.

The many positive memories he leaves behind in This World should give his Neshama an Aliya in the Next World.

I can't load the image of the Matzeivah on my IPad but I am trying to make out the words by squinting... Nope, can't read it... Will try on another device, I want to read it.

Thank you. The way I put the picture there was not the way I wanted to- I can't read it either. It's tiny. Maybe someone knows how to enlarge it? I'm not very good at this stuff.

If you click on the matzevia, you should see the imageshack page http://imageshack.com/f/ezGLRl0pj which will enable you to download it, and when you open it on your computer, the size is normal.

The epitaph is beautiful.

Page 152-153 of this week's Lakewood Shopper has an article with pictures about the Hachnasas Sefer Torah. (My father is the clean-shaven guy- I think he and my grandfather are the only ones.)

What a special zchus for Chaim Dovid A"h. It's so special that an anon donor was so impressed and therefore donated the sefer torah. Wishing you a ksiva vachasima tova - a year filled with mazel, hatzlacha, bracha, parnassa and gezunt.
