Have any of you heard of the heart k hechsher? I saw it today on these mini chocolate ice cream sandwiches at trader joes. Is it reliable?

Thanks!

If it is a Heart with a K inside, it's Rabbi Teichman of Los Angeles. Is considered the more "heimishe" of the Los Angeles hechsherim.

I believe the one you are talking about is fine, but you should check with your own rav.

I think it's always best to ask LOR, but mine said heart with a K inside is fine for coconut milk.

I see this Hechsher on So Delicious Ice Cream (non dairy) thats sold in lots of Kosher stores.

Is it comparable to the OU?

It's Kehilla Kosher and it's on the cRc's list of recommended hechsherim. You can download the cRc's app which is very helpful when shopping.

As others have mentioned here, it's considered a good hechsher.
But I wouldn't compare things against the OU because they're in a whole different league. That's not a bad thing, I'm just saying it's more like an apples and oranges comparison. OU is giant.

This is confusing.

Are all these 14 pages of companies on the CRC list, 100% recommended by CRC?

What's confusing? They're listing commonly acceptable hechsherim from all around the world, to make things not confusing to people who hold by cRc standards but encounter other symbols that they need help identifying.

Heart K is an LA based hechsher and is widely accepted by the community and beyond. I don't know anyone who doesn't eat it if they eat the typical OU, OK, CRC hechsherim etc. Always ask your LOR but is well accepted.

Yes.

Their other lists are also extremely helpful- I check their fruits and veg guide and the pesach guide a few times a year.

If you’re concerned, ask your LOR if you can follow what the crc says on everything. I did, and mine said yes.

They have actually researched several more, these are just the more common ones. You can contact them directly regarding some of the smaller agencies.
