I heard that there's a model recommended by Poskim (I think the black rectangle). Does anyone have that one and are they happy with it?

I have it, it works just as well as all the others, and as a bonus the pot and lid go in the dishwasher, so no messy cleanup!!!!

All of the above models are permissible? What is the difference between these, other than size and color?

All the models listed above do not have an insert. They go on a base that is like a hot plate as MOM222 mentioned in her post. They are all basically the same. They are not digital, and they have a dial for low to high. Each model has a slight variation (size, tote, griddle, type of pot: aluminum or stainless etc...). You can call Westbend and they will give you the exact differences between each model, or you can look up each one on Westbend's website and check out the individual differences between each model. I have an older model 6 qt which I use for Shabbos and I just got one for Pesach. I called and asked about the differences before I made my decision, since they all seem basically the same.

so the idea is to have the pot on the heat and not surrounded by the heat?

..... I called and asked about the differences before I made my decision, since they all seem basically the same.
I emailed them and I got this from Cust Serv:
Quote:
The only difference between the 84755 and 84765, is the 84765 comes with a carrying tote.
The 84755 and 84765 cooking pot is made out of aluminum, and
is oblong.
The 84716,847846, and 84866 the cooking pot is oval.
The 84716 cooking pot is made out of aluminum and the cover has a plastic cover knob.

The 84846 has a stainless steel cooking pot, and knob on the cover is
plastic.
The 84866 is also a stainless steel cooking pot, but the handle on
the cover is made out of steel. There is a griddle setting on this slow
cooker. The other slow cookers do not have a griddle setting. Please let me
know if you have any further questions.

Sheeesh- too many choices. A tote isn't neccessary, now between the plastic and metal knob....Also, what's the griddle setting?
