when life gives you snow ... build a couch
perfect for guests you don't want tracking the snow inside
[p.s. I take no credit - I only wish it were mine]

I'm tempted to go outside right now and try making that.

It's -20 wind chill here tonight. I'd sit on the floor inside first.

I saw that someone around the corner piled a bunch of snow into a six foot drift or so, in front of their porch. I think they built it around a ladder as I saw kids climbing up, and then sledding down.

Come on over! It was 1 degree at 7 this AM. At least it'll be a balmy 20 something sometime this week again. Not sure if it's tomorrow or Shabbos.

Love the couch!
my ds (in yeshiva) piled snow very high outside his dorm window (with the help of friends) and then jumped-out his 2nd story window into the pile. B"H it was high and soft enough so he didnt injure himself. Neither did the others who followed him. I was informed after the fact, and saw the picture and video. Wanna see the new snow in my hair from that?
I prefer the couch.

I love this! What spirit! And what nerves of steel you must have ;-)
Meanwhile, posting from cloudy suburbia where it's 40 degrees! I unloaded groceries after hanging up my coat. (Mothers here let their kids go unzipped once it hits 25 or 30, and I've seen some kids in hoodies once it hits 40.)

I just wanted to send a big hug to anyone reading this in New England. You are dealing with something entirely different than our permafrost. I call it permafrost because we'll probably see some snow on the ground somewhere deep into March, and while we're all grateful for plowing, we're also grateful for wide streets since we can't park closer than 18 inches to the curb. And I just knocked down some icicles today that could have been Roald Dahl's first, rejected idea for Lamb to the Slaughter.
I wish you all - and everyone - that you stay safe, that you have enough at home to keep you busy, productive, and sane, that you have power, heating, no exploding pipes, and strong roofs.
