so I have been using chemed for a couple of months. looking for something else. what are the other practices except shanik and chemed and take united healthcare medicaid? chemed has a lab and pharmacy. one of my kids needs lab work done every few months with a phlebotomist that is really experienced and good. and she needs a specialist every few months and there in chemed the specialists come there. I dont have to travel elsewhere. and its a big plus. but I still want to see if I can get these things in a diff office. I know shanik has a office in toms river can someone tell me who the doctors there? do they have lab, pharmacy near? I know that for specialist I will probably have to travel. I want a place that cares. thats one of the things making me look elsewhere.

I use Dr. Shanik, so I can only tell you my experience there. I have a child with special medical needs; Dr. Shanik's office can be the best place for you, or the worst, you have to know how to handle his system.

Pros:
amazing hours
Dr. Shanik's name carries serious weight, they can get you into any specialist anywhere
very efficient referrals system
some amazing Doctors and PAs - my regulars know me, and they truly care
Dr. Shanik himself is a genius of a diagnostician

Cons:
You can see a different Dr. and PA at every visit and end up feeling like no one cares. You have to make it your business to see your favorite clinicians, which might mean taking appointments at inopportune times or farther offices, until they know you

some very new and not so good clinicians
long wait times
Madison Ave. is a very busy office. River Ave. is quieter, I don't know about Brick and Toms River

Dr Indich office takes the blood work. I've had Dr. Indich do it himself.

As far as keeping things quiet, there is a very low turnover rate among his employees.

sorry I didnt answer till now, thanks everyone! is dr indich an old man? is he patient? I did hear his ideas and bedside manner not what I am looking for. could be its not the one I heard about. I will give him a try but I really want a practice that is consistent. I cant run around to different offices till they get to know me. I am not driving yet so that isnt an option as far as it is now. about the other offices I am glad to hear about.

is jersey shore a good hospital? I am looking at diff pediatricians at what hospital they are affiliated and jersey shore came up. what are their expertise? do they have a pediatric icu? are they good in emergency? what areas are they not good in? I did hear that if someone needs good care they go to chop? how would you compare chop to jersey? or monmouth in long branch? just so I know if anything goes wrong what I can expect?

I know from dr shanick's practice he makes the decision based on the dr he knows is available. For example we have had a few broken bones - for real breaks or complicated he insisted I travel to Chop or go to Neptune if it could wait and I could get an appt.
For a minor fracture he setup that I could go to Monmouth ONLY if the dr he trusted would meet me there (the office called and checked before I traveled).
For ENT issues Dr Shanik also insists on CHOP, for eyes he has sent me to Robert Wood Johnson. Always specific doctors.
Other doctors in town have no problem relying on Monmoth hospital for many of these issues so it is really doctor specific.
[I'm not necessarily recommending Dr. Shanik, even though after some emergencies I've come to be grateful that I'm in his practice].
You may also want to know how they respond in an emergency. A friend of mine had a baby who needed emergency care - to be transported from Monmouth where he was born. Their doctor was unavailable. In the end Dr. Shanik (not their pediatrician) handled the transfer and lining up the doctors and recommending who to insist on for the surgery. I think things like that are very important. [They did leave their dr in the end, but not to Dr Shaniks practice]

I used Westpark Pediatrics - 732-370-8500
They are located on County Line Road near the Villas
I moved OOT, and have not found a comparable practice. In fact, when I went back to Lkwd for a visit, I met with them to consult on an issue that I was having with my son and my local doctor wasn't very helpful.
There are several doctors there - I liked all of them.
Blood work is done on site, Refuah Pharmacy is next door.

He's not old. I use him for many years and am very happy. He can sometimes come across as a little tense when the office is very hectic, but I would say that is his only downside... You can always see him, appts are very easy to get whenever is convenient for you, and I like his medical views... Also does bloodwork on-site, comes in motzei shabbos.

Dr. Gittleman is not an alarmist or panicky but a very good doctor.
My children have been patients since my oldest was born, 23 years ago.
Very calm, thorough and thought out. He may be particular or careful to rule out any problems. That's where someone is in my opinion mistakenly using the term alarmist. But he is a very knowledgeable doctor and will say if I don't see improvement in x,y,z then we can do some tests, etc. In the normal circumstance there is improvement.
There are a few doctors in the practice, all very competent and knowledgeable. I would recommend his office very much.

so to anyone that can chime in with info. what type of person is dr shanik? is he quick? thorough? patient? I hear so much good. but I still want someone who is calm and gives me a chance to ask. doesnt just run out of the room. I have nothing from that. can you describe what type he is? how hard is it to get an appointment to see him? I obviously would use the toms river office its close to me. how often does he come in? and what about that it takes time to get to know you? didnt understand that?

Dr. Gittelman has been closed to new patients for years.

I use Shanik's office and there are definite pros and cons. I have never been to the Toms River office but I believe that Dr. Shanik never goes there. (He also doesn't go to the River Ave. office.) I insist on seeing Dr. Shanik when I am concerned about something unusual, not just for typical ear infections, but it takes time to find the doctors and PAs that you really like and trust. And the ones that you like are not always available. (And I truly dislike some of them and will not see them, ever.)

It can be very difficult to make an appointment with a specific practitioner, which is frustrating when your kids are sick - I book well visits way in advance so that I can get the doctor that I like. I have built a relationship with many of them but you have to be persistent and it does take time.

On the plus side, with so many offices and doctors you can get an appointment virtually any time, especially if you're not picky about who you see.

Dr. Shanik himself is very quick and can come across as a bit abrupt if you're not used to him, but he will give you the time of day - you just have to assert yourself. He can come into the room, check your kid, and be back out in under a minute (literally!) but if you have questions for him he will patiently and thoroughly answer you.

Good luck! If you do end up in his practice, it takes time to get used to it (especially if you go to the main office on 4th & Madison). I like the River and Brick offices but haven't been to any of the others.

Jersey Shore and Monmouth are both good hospitals. But CHOP is the best (think NYU or
Columbia-on that level). Dr. Shanik sends to CHOP when he feels there might be the least complicaton. The good thing about CHOP is that there are good specialists in every field there, so even when something cops up that is unralted to the original problem, you're in good hands.
