Can anyone please direct me to where I can start. Its been a dream of mine for a while and now that Ive been going through a rough patch I feel that music would help me heal...I wouldnt mind doing it along with a CD or online since I prefer to do things on my own pace

There are quite a lot of youtube videos for beginners and I think a number of resources online. However, I would strongly advise you to get 'real life' violin lessons as it's crucial that you master the basic techniques of violin playing properly.

Hiring a private tutor for a set number of lessons will give you the basics to even attempt to self teach. One on one will be your own pace.
