They charge each time you take it. So you pay whether you pass or fail.

unfortunately this isn't true...I failed my first time taking it because I got a lot of motorcycle questions which I didn't study as I didn't think I'd need to know them!
you pay whether or not you pass.

Oh it's very possible to fail. Statistically most people pass on their 2nd or 3rd time, I would tell that to the person taking the test.

You pay a fee to sit to take the test, so you pay whether or not you pass. The permit test is super easy, they basically ask you what a stop sign means and whether you're allowed to drive drunk. A friend of mine did say the Nassau county test is harder, so maybe just make sure to go to a city DMV if you're concerned. The road test is a different story. I passed on my third try, which is not at all unusual. Most people don't pass the first time, at least not in my neck of the woods.

The permit test? Or the driving test?

Certainly a not insignificant percentage of people fail their driving test the first time. I've never heard of anyone failing a permit test.

Thank you - I meant road/driving test

Permit test, try to Google practice multiple choice tests in your area, the few q that get repeated most often are the ones likely to show up on your test

In PA you only pay if you pass. you dont pay to take the test, you pay for the permit itself.

I am quite sure that it is the same in ny. You goo in free and pay for permit if pass. I know that there are people who fail but if you prepare even a bit it's likely you'll pass

You won't fail if you read the booklet from the dmv. Also do the practice test online. A lot of of the questions are the same on the real test! If you don't have time to read the booklet, even doing the questions online will make you pass
