want to book a hotel. So confused what's old town key west and new town? Where would I want to stay? Looking for a nice resort but not coming up with much

We stayed at the pier house was very nice. Key west doesn't have resorts it's more quainter hotels

Just checked seems like a nice place,They're booking for $500 a night tho. On Priceline they were offering me hotels only in old towne for lower price. Is old towne where I want to be? What were some of the things you did?
