My doctor feels that by 18 months, the child should be off formula. I wonder if this makes sense for me because my daughter is allergic to milk so taking her off formula would mean just drinking water. When do all of you experienced Mommys stop with formula?

although I didn't give much formula, if your baby is eating enough otherwise, it's probably not necessary (and why pay the money) to keep her on longer than you doctor feels necessary.
Make sure she gets calcium from other places.
Also, there are alternatives, aside from water. I understand if you don't give juice, but there's soy and rice milk, as well.

DS nursed until 17 mos even though he ate solids at a year. He didn’t take a bottle, though. DD DID get formula so she ate earlier.
At any rate, a baby doesn’t need a bottle after a year old. By then, most babies are eating solids anyway.

For calcium you can give him other things besides milk. But if your child is a picky eater you might want to consider keeping him on formula atleast you know he is getting nutrients and is probably not hungry. I gave my daughter formula until 19 months a bottle a day.
