But from other posts I see she is in America now, so if you are looking to shop in NY, then the non jewish chain stores like target, kmart, walmart... have more of the cheaper stuff than the yiddishe stores.

I'm not too fond of ordering things over the internet and you don't get same day service.
I 'm not in Eretz Yisrael right now :'(
But I don't live in ny either.

craigslist is not ordering off the internet; its local, people sell their used stuff and you have to come and pick up.
I just a week ago got a used (in a very good condition) wooden convertible crib and mattress for $50 total; we needed a spare for our bedroom while teaching my son to sleep through the night... When I am done with it I will resell it on craigslist for the same amount or more...

If you don't want used, you can go to IKEA for cheap wooden baby furniture. Their cribs don't have a drop side, and look minimalist, but they work well, and I found I only used the dropside with my first child when the mattress was in the highest position, for the first 4 months or so...
With my second I didn't even bother, the noise it made was not worth the trouble.
