I recently started the whole30 diet. So far it is going well and seems like a very maintable lifestyle. One of my main motivators is weight loss, so I am wondering if anyone had successful weight loss while doing it? If so, how much did you lose? (and did you also exercise?)

I know someone who did it, lost a lot of weight and then gained it all back. It doesn't seem sustainable to me, but maybe it works for you. You will know if you can follow it long term.

I kept 30 of the 50 lbs that I lost off, however I work out and still follow the lifestyle. I was very strict for over a year. It's been almost two years and I am fine following the way of eating but it's frustrating to have reached a plateau and not be able to break it.

I've lost 30 pounds so far, no exercise. Stick to the template STRICTLY and you should definitely lose weight (if you need to).

OP here. Thank you for the responses. How long did it take you to lose the 30 lbs?

I lost about 30 lbs.
It is slowing down now so when the kids go back to school I will start to exercise more and I hope that picks it up.
I REALLY like the whole 30

I did whole30 for one month and I lost 12 pounds.
Afterwards I switched over to the more lenient but similar paleo diet, and I lost another 20 over the next three months.

Thinking about doing this diet. What do you do about coffee with the milk restriction? I hate black coffee.

It didn't work for me and the replacement milk for coffee was very hard.

All of you who did the program, what did you do for Kiddush and hamotzi on Shabbos?

OP here. I am wondering the same thing...
(I plan on just taking a small sip of kiddush and to weigh pita bread before Shabbos and eat the minimum amount - kbeitza - per each meal)

Yes, that's what I did. We actually used grape juice for kiddush so that was okay, but for hamotzi I ate the minimum required to be yotzei.

Okay, so I'm almost maybe I think about to start this, and I think I can get away with not having khalla on Shabbos (just making brakhas on everything else? how would that work?) but no wine for kiddush.... am having trouble with that idea.
Isn't wine kind of close enough to grape juice?
(I can't drink grape juice, too sweet, so that's a thing.)
Anyone?
And if you do the paleo thing, is wine allowed on that?

I am always thoroughly confused by these diets. People seem to think that they're some kind of magic. OP, I'm sure most people lost weight on the whole30 diet. Why? Same reason most people lose weight on all the other diets. Very little or no carbs, cakes, or sugars. You can't have most of the greasy yummy foods you would find at a shmorg or eat on shabbos. The reason why the whole30 diet usually fails in the long run is....
Drumroll......the same reason every other diet fails in the long run! People eventually miss there carbs, French fries, kugal and chulent. They can only go so long without it. Yes, some make it a permanent lifestyle and keep the weight off, but overwhelmingly, people miss their yummy food and leave the diet.

I followed the diet strictly for a months and didn't lose a pound. Nothing to do with missing other yummy foods.

That is exactly why I refuse to do a "fad diet" I went to a nutritionist and im eating just about everything, and loosing too. I can defenitly make this a way of life and stick with it.

That's why I said "most" people. Unless there is a health issue, the typical person who is 25 pounds+ overweight will lose weight on just about ANY low carb, low sugar, low fat, low calorie diet.
