How do I keep the potato kugel for shabbos n a hotplate from Friday night to shabbos day? In a pan of water?

We put a deep pan of water on the hotplate, put the shallower potato kugel pan in the deeper one, and then cover with silver foil so that it does not steam out. Works great!
