It could be because of the new programs you installed.
You need to know how much memory your computer has, and if it doesn't have enough, the new programs could slow it down.
I'm not sure how to find out, maybe some other expert here will tell you.

go to Start>all programs> accessories > system tools> system info
in the window that will pop up with your system info, find the line with Total Physical Memory. Tell me what it is?
also what's available Physical Memory?
did you install any new programs (besides hi speed internet) on your comp lately ?
also you can press ctrl+alt+del one time and then choose Task Manager. While in Task Manager close some proccesses that are still running.
