What is the precise difference between editing and proofreading? What do you charge per hour for each of these? If you have one client for whom you work on a steady basis, say 10 hours a week, would that change your rates?

There's an online email list called Soferet for frum people involved in writing, editing, translating, etc. I would suggest joining the group and posting your questions there, which will give you lots of feedback from professionals actively working in this field.

proofreading is just checking for grammar and spelling mistakes and correcting those.
editing involves a lot more - rewriting, restructuring, fact-checking, content suggestions.
I started out charging $25/hour when I was just beginning. Now I charge $80-$120/hour, but I do go lower when it's a long-term project.

I realize this is an old thread- but is $80-$120/hour the going rate for an experienced writer/editor?
