Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do for mm? My kids will be dressed up as Indians. I am looking to do something that doesn't involve too much work, yet is inexpensive.
TIA!

By Indians, do you mean corn-and-squash Native Americans, or rice-and-curry Asian subcontinent Indians?

Also, I'd rather not make actual prepared hot foods. More like nuts, snacks (but not junk food) and those kinds of things. Most people I'm going to be sending mm to are the type not to appreciate meal foods (aside for my mother and grandma).

Well, for starters you could give them their land back.

For snacks, you could make burfee (kind of like fudge, but nut-based). I think it's delicious.

It's really not politically correct to dress up as another ethnicity. Whether Native American or Indian (as in from India) neither are really 'done'

Why? When did OP take their land? Which is India, by the way.

Some circles haven't adopted the practice of assuming everyone is offended by everything.

As far as I know, Indians still run India.

A themed food package is fine, just know your cultural audience re: dressing up as another culture.

Happens to be, I borrowed a real sari (and learned how to pleat and wrap it properly) and learned how to make naan from a Jewish woman from Cochin for a geography report in my school days.

For more snacky MM foods, I thought first about Chai tea (though if you want it to be part of the mitzvah, it couldn’t just be tea bags).

If your packaging is very obvious, you can also go for things like tiger or elephant-shaped cookies, or brown coffee “lentils” even if they aren’t authentically Indian.

Except when WE are the ones who are offended, ala the group of Halloween trick or treaters near Lakewood who dressed up as Religious Jews, widely repeated in YWN and elsewhere as offensive.

Hodu is mentioned in the Megilla.. so its dressing up as characters from the megilla. Passes the sniff test.

I think she was referring to Native Americans.

If you are making food from India, samosas with a small container of tamarind chutney would be an easy thing to package. Please drop some by my house! Very Happy
