Even if the progam isn't confidential, it's not ok to join it for free when others paid.

That being said, there are several reasons a family would stay in a hotel over Shabbos without being part of a program. Personally we try to avoid it because of all of the difficulties the article describes. If possible, we do an airbnb instead.

I never leave the room open because of safety concerns. I have DH arrange with the desk escorts to pick us up and bring us back to the room and press elevator buttons for us.

We never found this to be a problem. They always accommodate these requests.

Try to get rooms on lower floors.

Are you sure this is not a problem of amira l'akum? This should be clarified with a rav.

DH arranges everything before Shabbos. My Rabbi doesn't have a problem. We travel all over the world often knowing or finding a local Rabbi who knows the hotels. Often without assistance, we couldn't leave the room.

In areas where security is a concern, and you need mantraps, this is the only way possible for residents to enter or leave their building. There would be no minyans, nor would there be large seders and sudars. We would all be trapped. I also see that security camera screens are allowed to remain on. Jews must actively engage in activating the screen.

Amira l'akum applies even to things arranged before Shabbas. (Common misconception)

I'm not saying you're doing something wrong, but for the sake of this being posted publicly, I feel it necessary to inform that this is a complex issue that needs guidance from a Rav about the specific situation.
