Hi ladies,

We have been suffering with my baby since birth. Reflux, indigestion, colic, allergies....all of it. Been at numerous hospitals for GI. She has a very rare allergic condition called FPIES where the stomach is allergic to basically all food. I'm looking for a top allergist that will work with me thoroughly on how to feed my baby. Not just treat her like a number. She reacts to everything she eats (even inactive ingredients in medication). I'm slowly losing my mind and need help finding a good allergist to work with us. I live in queens but don't mind to travel. I already tried my. Sinai and they don't take my insurance....

I'm very happy with Dr. Siegel in Westchester, she accepts most insurances (including medicaids) She's extremely knowledgeable, professional, caring, and takes her time to really explain things... I've been using her several years for my severely allergic son...
Address: BCHP Bradhurst Avenue Specialty Offices, 19 Bradhurst Avenue, Hawthorne, NY 10532

My sympathies with you. FPIES is not a common condition. Wouldn't she be better off with a GI?

Op here.

She's seeing a GI. he wants us to see an allergist with regards to starting solids but honestly whatever she eats makes her sick. Even a morsel of food. That's why I need a very good doc to work with her condition....

Thank U!

Although not an allergist, Dr meth deals with allergies a lot. If you're not currently a patient, she will see you for a consultation. She is fantastic.

It might be worth it to contact bikur cholim or RCCS or some other Jewish organization that can help get your daughter on a top insurance for an affordable price. It's worth it to go to the right doctors for such a rare and complicated condition.

Babypink, sometimes the top top doctors are the ones that treat you like a number and don't have the time to work with you thoroughly with the condition. She's not on Medicaid just mount Sinai only takes insurance through an employer. So I'm looking for someone just as good but has the time and patience to work with us!

My son had FPIES. Outgrown at age of three, BH.

He had it very severely. Almost died from a sip of chicken soup... Pear left him vomiting for 2o hours straight...

Most allergists don't really have much info about FPIES as it is so rare.

Let me share some tips that worked for us:

1. FPIES specialists say that yellow fruits are the most well-tolerated. I started with peaches and my son BH was fine with them. After that we added in avacado, wheat, banana. That's all he could have for the first two years, then we added in tuna and egg. BH.

2. Soy, milk and chicken/turkey, oats and rice are the most likely to trigger children with FPIES. Chicken was a near killer for us. I wouldn't recommend trying until far in the future.

3. Sugar is one of the things that most FPIES kids seem to be able to tolerate. Obviously not very healthy, but when other kids have nosh, being able to hand your kid a candy or ices is so important for their mental health!

4. As an (supposed) T-cell mediated allergy, the T-cells are shown to have a memory span of about 18 months. I found that to mean that if there was a reaction to a food, do NOT retry that food until at least 18 months later, because the body will still feel it is allergic.

5. Spoon aversion: My son associated the spoon with pain, so he refused to eat from the spoon. I found that once I was able to give him wheat (which is btw often a low FPIES trigger and is good first grain for most), I gave him bread and cookies which he loved, because it was a different texture and route of feeding than he had been used to. His food aversion was so severe that he would not even mouth toys. To this day he is very reluctant to try new things and won't touch many textures, but BH he is outgrown the FPIES.

4.
ZOFRAN! Zofran, zofran, zofran! Cannot say it enough. It is LITERALLY a lifesaver. Stops the reaction in its tracks. Take it wherever you go, like people do an epipen for IgE allergies.

Ladies, please only recommend allergists that you KNOW have experience with FPIES. Many (most?) allergists are not familiar with it and I wouldn’t want op to waste her time with them and possibly endanger her baby. Please stop throwing names unless you personally can vouch for an allergist who treats FPIES.
