I really love the nickname Nashi but have only ever heard it for Menashe which I do not like. Any thoughts on another name I could use? Hebrew only, no Yiddish.

Do your child a favor and don't name him Nashi.

Nashi sounds very similar to Hebrew word nashi meaning female/womanly.
Try Menny instead.

Agreed. This is a terrible name. It reminds me of 'nosh'

My son’s name is Nachman. When I took him to the pediatrician for the first time, one of the nurses called him naSHman. Ever since then we call him Nash as a nickname. LOL

ETA: I also just remembered that my dh met someone a while back who said his name was Nash. When dh came home and told me I asked if his name was actually nachman (because of how we call ours) and he said yes he had asked him too!

What is the vowel pronunciation on the "a"?

Is it like "nasty", or is it like "nosh-y". Either way, I can see this kid getting teased a lot.

In general, I would encourage any mother not to choose her baby's name based on a nickname. Nicknames tend to evolve on their own, like Nash in the above example.

If the "a" is pronounced like the first letter of "apple" it's ok, but if it's "ah" like "avocado" I would imagine a lifetime of teasing.
