Could one of you not-too-foodie women recommend a smallish knife that’s good for chopping vegetables, peeling onions , etc! I had a wonderful restaurant quality one that just died (rusted after 20 years plus dog ate the handle —don’t ask. I have arthritis in my hand do easy use is important.
Thank you!

The victorionox knives are cheap and work well. I replace them as needed.

I'll second the Victorinox recommendation. I use their chef's knives all the time.

Are we going to be implicated in a crime here? Is "vegetables" a euphemism for any'thing'?

Lol! A good cheap knife with teeth that cuts tomatoes and onions perfectly and is straight edged is a Fixwell knife made in Germany. I buy a 12 pack in Israel and can't live without it. They sell them here too but individually. They say Fixwell Rostfrei Germany on them and have jagged teeth and a straight edge.

I don't know how I sliced and diced before them...

Ok, on a separate topic—is there anyplace online to get K l’P roasted pistachios? I’m trying to be efficient since everything is closed here. No, “pistachios” isn’t code!

Almost funny knife story. So on my husband's last trip back from Israel, (with one of my kids) he forgot to buy me my knives. I obviously didn't know Amazon ran the world at the time. So on the way to the airport he rushed into a makolet and bought it and ran to catch his flight. He threw the bag with the knives into my daughter's carry-on luggage.

Yeah.

He almost missed his flight and now, someone in Israel, who confiscated the knives in the airport, has a really grateful wife.

Because they are AWESOME. The knives. Not the airport security. Somehow, the wonderful knives must have talked my daughter's ipod nano into going with them.. Because that never made it home either. And my daughter would never get onto a flight without it..

Moral? Worth $10 bucks to give these a whirl... Just bought myself another set..

Re: Pistachios? I'm sure Amazon had them, just as I'm sure I'm not the one to find them😀

I heard you can get a cleaning crew on Amazon. Idk if it's true though

They're listed with different names/functions but they're all the same on these links.

We have them in black, white and red.

J A Henkels chef's knife. I can’t live without it.

The advantage of a good chef's knife is that it’s very well balanced that once you get used to the size, it feels like an extension of your hand. The weight of it aids in its use.

Those Fixwell ones are not safe because they are sharp with a flexible blade. When cutting something hard like a potato or melon they don’t cut straight down and could go to the side and injure the user. Many people seem to have the same view as Jewishfoodie, but stay away, they are not so safe.
Rather get the Victorinox knives of a similar size. They come in more colors, and are available straight and serrated, round or pointed tip. They have a nice strong blade and comfortable handle.

OP, totally agree here. The knives I suggested are awesome and I can't live without them. For onions, tomatoes, veggies etc of small size, caliber and density.

For potatoes and the like, you must must use a powerful knife, for your safety. Also, a longer knife. These blades are short. Still, the only thing I chop onions with.. 😉 Good luck!

Love our expensive Japanese knives , they make my life and prep so much easier . Global is a bit cheaper, but dh & I really love our Shun knives. Cut quickly and smoothly from potatoes to onions to sweet potatoes and more.
Yes, they need to be "babied" but it's worthwhile.
Anon bec dh loves telling every one about them lol.

Updated!

I ordered these knives. Do NOT. they are bad imitations and they're made in United Arab emirates. I was actually scared to open the package. They are cheap garbage imitations even though they say Fixwell etc.. But too shiny and cheap plastic handles. Dangerous.

Seriously, Arabic lettering and all... Fake.
