So, I'm in my 40's but I have never gone on a "real" diet yet. I have always eaten healthy and I was ok with my weight, but I think that now life and metabolism have finally caught up with me, and suddenly I have to lose fifty pounds. (Ok, not so suddenly, but you know what I mean).

So, what are your suggestions? Which diet is best for a newbie who has never tried a diet before? How much can I realistically plan on losing, and how long will it take? And is there a way to diet and lose and not be hungry? Or are all diets going to make me hungry?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Wow, 40''s and never dieted is great. I suggest you don't diet. I would recommend adjusting your eating to "the Mediterranean diet" or "whole 30". They aren't diets per se, rather just healthy eating guidelines that are more specific.

Weight watchers is best. Lifestyle change. Eat more vegetables, fruit and healthy protein and count everything else. They encourage water and exercise.

I'd say address any emotional stress that triggers overeating.
Cut out late night eating.
Everything in moderation. So adjust portion sizes.
Easy enough?

There is no magic pill that’s going to make you lose 50 lbs as fast as you would like. I personally have been on every single diet I’ve had weight loss surgery that didn’t help either. it ultimately came down to a lifestyle change. I carb cycle and go by the 80%/20% rule. 80% healthy eating 20% indulge. Workout every single day, I’d say lifting more than cardio as it burns fat faster and will continue burning calories after the workout as well. Drink water half of your body weight in ounces and just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Don’t compare yourself to others. You do you.
You can check out this link on carb cycling

I would also suggest the Transform app. I’ve had major success with it.
Good luck!

P.S. please check with your doctor before starting any new workout routine.
I can only give advice that worked for me.
