I think it's just a sweet way to say daughter. People use it as part of online vernacular. But misusing it is weird. Like,
"My DH has been ignoring me for 3 years and now he says I'm fat and ugly and he wishes he never married me..."
Uh..
Are you sure the d stands for dear in those cases? I theorize it stands for something more ominous.

I really don't think that anyone here who uses dh, ds, dd etc is trying to brag or say anything of significance. It's just an easy shorthand. I believe that was the original intention.
On imamother I'm usually typing on my phone and I'm not writing a school project, I prefer to type less; the long version of dh would be 'my husband', that's 9 letters plus a space. Way longer than the 2 letters it takes to type dh.

Am I the only one who goes nuts whenever I hear "I was in middle of" instead of "in the middle of?"

Ladies, this was great fun to read!
May I add to the list?
'Super' as in 'the zoo trip was super fun'.
And 'tremendous' as used in any sentence by the DP to the south. May I add DP (faceciously, of course) to the verbal currency of Imamother?

Rando! I must hang out with the wrong people because in a phone conversation today, my friend said a "rando" showed up for Shabbos and, (I'm ashamed to say this but) I looked the word up. I thought it was a type of person, like albino or something. 😓
I will not be using that word to describe people. It's inappropriate. I hope she reads this.

I cannot believe no one said this one yet- "no offense" and even better yet "no offense, but...."
"I would never wear that dress if I was your size, no offense"
"no offense but you should never step foot in the kitchen again"
Just because you use the phrase "no offense" before or after you insult me, does not make me any less insulted by the rude comment you made!

Yup! 👍
It's first cousins to "don't take this the wrong way but..."
I'm gonna take it the wrong way, so no offense but, shut up.

Thanks for the explanation, Metukah. It's nothing I was unaware of though. Sometimes things just irk us, and no amount of logic is going to change that. Feelings don't need to be excused, explained, or justified. They just are.

Guy. I hate when people call others "guys" but I acknowledge that it's [crazy]. I just hate the whole "guys" thing.
Like, "Hello! Guys! let's all....
Or, "yo, guys, why don't we go out tomorrow.."
And I heard a worse version of it:
"You guyses.." but it was from 18 year olds, so that doesn't count, right?

"It could be worse.."
Oh, thank you, Debbie Downer. I had no idea, when I was saying I fell out of a tree and landed on a rake, that it could be worse.
But now that you've fashioned an imaginary situation where it could be worse, (you could have landed on a bee hive that was living in the rake..) I feel so so much better!
Because, it could be worse! Whenever people tell a story, that's exactly what they want to hear!
Try it! You broke your leg?
It could be worse. Your head could have fallen off.
See how much better that made you feel?
