When I was a teen we went to Paris for school trips and stayed with local french families. Definitely a different style of living. None of my classmates were rich but we mostly lived in 4 or 5 bedroom houses. In Paris everyone was in apartments. (Now property in London is so much more expensive not sure that is the case anymore) Also in Paris I think long term renting is much more common.
But as I am sure you know happiness is also about what others have. If everyone is living in similarly sized apartments or houses, people will mind less that they share a bedroom with 2 siblings.

3200 sq feet. Plus garage.
I find a bigger home is easier to clean as it’s not cluttered.
We custom built so the layout is perfect for us. Made some mistakes but overall it’s pretty perfect.

May I inquire as to what kind of layout? I'm comparing a few different ones now that we're looking to custom build.

1900 sf plus basement.
It was built in the 1980s so the rooms are on the small side. I do not need 4000 sf but a larger kitchen and dining room would be nice and I would like a slightly bigger bathroom so I could have a big bathtub. But that wouldn't add up to a huge amount of space.

A meter is more than a yard. This is quite large.

My house is 1600 sf above grade with 1000 finished in basement.
Truth be told now that our kids are Dult it is more than enough. Husband and I live in 1000 sf on main floor. Basement rented. Upstairs for kids and guests

Yes. But usually basement square footage is calculated separately like 2,000 SF plus 900 SF finished/unfinished basement.

No.. 100 sq meters is 1076.391 square feet. 3200 sf is unheard of in Paris.

3600 SF. I'm happy. Could always use another guestroom or two. Then again, I was happy in my cramped three room tiny apt too. A house doesnt make the home. Creating a home in a size house is key!
On one hand there's more to clean . Otoh, everything has it's designated space.

1550 sq ft condo plus a finished basement. We have one kid, and it's perfect for us. I would love a single family home in the 2500 sq ft range eventually... that's my dream.
