Eitan and Yonatan - too similar?

Have been over thinking this so much that I can't even hear the names normally anymore so need other opinions please! I have used one of these names, and am now expecting a boy - I love both names so in theory would use the other one too but I think it sounds too similar and kind of weird. But I do love it so am tempted.... what do you think?

I have friends with a Yonatan (Yoni) and an Eitan. Never thought the names were too similar.

Definitely not. I know someone who named two of her boys Eyal and yoel. Those are much more similar sounding IMO..

Netanel is similar to Yonatan in meaning but sounds different. What about that?

2 of my kids have similar sounding names too...as mentioned previously, their nicknames are v different to each other.also...each one is their own person.I felt like it seems a big deal now theyre both little and at home, but even once at school amongst friends or whatever, not to mention married and building their own homes pG, they become an individual, not a set of siblings, so it doesnt really matter if they sound similar. Hope I explained what I mean ok

I have cousins in the same family that are Tal and Maytal and I think that's a little weird even 30 years later.

Eitan and Yonatan are fine to me.

My husband is Yonatan, called Yoni by everyone and our son is Eitan. No issues at all. They are both beautiful names.

Thanks everyone for the feedback... it helps to hear from others! I already have a Yonatan and although he is sometimes called Yoni, it really is staying as Yonatan... otherwise it definitely wouldn't be a question.

You go, girl! The only thing the names have in common is their final syllable. As long as you don’t decide to shorten both of their names to “Tani” , you’re fine.

My friends sons are Elia and Eliav. Doesn’t get more similar than that

On that note if I have twin boys (my dream) I would name them Natan and Eitan.

Also my daughters are Talia and tehila (pronounced the Israeli way w accent on the “a”) and ppl say they’re too similar

I wouldn’t use for the same child as first and second name something that sounds almost the same tho

I think yonatan and eytan are both brautiful names and they are not too similar. Smile

we know 3 cousins (all about same age, growing up in same community/school): tali, lital and ortal...it works fine.

friends have a liel and elli (actually elinor, but her nickname is elli).

I grew up with neighbors called avi and ari (aviel and arielle)

I had twin students : leon and noel (noel is leon read backwards)

Voice of dissent here: I would not name an Eitan right after a Yonatan in the family order. Maybe if there were kids in between, but not consecutively. But I'm fairly picky across the board about keeping each kid's name sounding different.
