So, on the down pitch, I hear YAMMY
On the up pitch, I hear LOREL (not laurel)

It's really the same word, in different pitches? So hard to believe.

(Anyone else feel bad for the girl in the clip? She lives her life hoping that her tweets about nothing very serious will get retweed by other people who don't tweet about anything really serious.......and this is apparently a career and lifestyle, rolled into one.)

What is the difference between LOREL and laurel? I would think they are pronounces the same way.

I only heard Yanny until I tried it with the pitch up 30 percent, then I was able to hear laurel.

I’m impressed that amidst life chaos, we can all chill out and be entertained by this funny ridiculousness. YOLO!

I'm with you all the way Giselle! Laugh! Talk about ridiculous stuff! It's OK to take a break from the heavy!
And for me it's Yarry. I think it's so cool.

Like a french way of pronouncing Laurel, I guess.

Tonight, 4 adults in the room, two of whom had no idea what this was about. Two heard yanny and two heard laurel. 1 of each knew what it was about and 1 didn’t. My husband was quite distressed that he could not hear both. I briefly heard yanny, once but then it reverted to laurel since then.

Lol that isn’t French. That’s the right way to pronounce Laurel, if you don’t have a Jewish/NY accent.

I didn't hear Laurel at all.

The first pitch posted sounded like "Yowie" and all the others were variations of "Yammy". No "L" sounds!

If you click on the YouTube video above your post, there's a lot of people saying things like "no way it's Laurel" every one of them (no Jews that I can tell, definitely no Jewish/NY accents ) pronounces Laurel the way I do.

It's also how the word Laurel is pronounced if you look it up on dictionary.com. I never heard it said as "lo- RELLE" the way you would pronounce Est-ELLE That sounds french to me.

The first time I heard it, I heard Laurel, thereafter I heard Yanny.
As the pitch changes, it shifts.

Two takeaways from this:

First, we have a new understanding of how שמור וזכור בדיבור אחד works.

Second, between this and the dress meme, we need to realize that two people can see or hear the same thing and perceive the world differently. We need to be a lot more sensitive and a lot more compassionate to each other.
